Illan Meslier targets silverware after completing Arsenal transfer

Arsenal have strengthened their goalkeeping options by signing French goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds United.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Premier League champions, with the club holding the option to extend the deal by a further season.

Meslier arrives at the Emirates after spending seven years at Leeds, where he made 215 appearances in all competitions and kept 70 clean sheets. He first joined the Yorkshire club on loan from FC Lorient in 2019 before helping Leeds win promotion to the Premier League.

The move was later made permanent, and Meslier established himself as Leeds' first-choice goalkeeper, making 107 Premier League appearances during his time at Elland Road.

The Frenchman said he was proud to join Arsenal and is determined to help the club continue its success.

"I'm extremely happy. It's a great day for me because I have just joined the champions. For me, Arsenal is the biggest club in England," Meslier told Arsenal's official website.

"I'm very happy and very proud to join Arsenal. I cannot wait to show the love that I've got for this badge, and I cannot wait to win trophies with this team, because this is a club that needs to lift trophies again and again."
