I want to play against Orlando Pirates - Thembinkosi Lorch

Following his much talked about move from Orlando Pirates to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on deadline day last month, midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch says he is ready to face his former team on Saturday night.

Downs host the Buccaneers at Loftus Stadium for an 8pm kick-off as the DStv Premiership finally returns from the lengthy recess forced by the Africa Cup of Nations, which ended four days ago in Cote d’Ivoire.

Lorch says although it will be emotional, no player wants to be left out of a fixture of this magnitude.

"The team welcomed me well in the team. The spirit in the team is very good. Every player wants to play over the weekend because we are playing Pirates. It's a big team, it's a big game. The coach will decide who plays so it's up to the coach," Lorch said.

Sundowns added Lorch to their total of four new signings in January, but he – along with Zuko Mdunyelwa from Chippa United – are the only two who joined from local clubs, while Tashreeq Matthews and Matias Esquivel came from Sweden and Argentina respectively.

The one-time Footballer of the Year is itching to make his debut.

"It's difficult to play my first game especially against my former team but you know life, we need to move on. I'm hoping I will start over the weekend and do my best for my team," Lorch added.

Lorch’s move was described by coach Rulani Mokwena as “complex”, and the player weighed in by saying he will forever cherish his spell at Pirates.

"I remember I signed there when I was 22 years and I left there when I'm 30. So, I'm grateful for the opportunity that he gave me, Pirates will always have a special place in my heart."
