Hugo Broos still concerned Bafana Bafana lack proven goalscorer

Ahead of their second match in the FIFA series against hosts Algeria on Tuesday night, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says his search for a proven goalscorer continues.

The Belgian mentor watched on as his side squandered chances in the 1-1 draw with Andorra on Thursday, having to come from behind to level matters.

Broos did not feature the regulars in that match and speaking to SAFA media the coach adds he wants to see an improvement in the next fixture, particularly upfront.

''This has been a problem for so many years in South African football, we don't have a big scorer which is something you also see even in the local competition,'' said Broos.

The coach says he will remind the group facing Algeria will be no easy assignment, and points out that the Bafana are without three forwards who could have possibly helped carry the load and score goals.

''Everybody has to know that international games are one or two levels higher than the PSL, it is not easy to score. On the other hand I have three strikers that are not there,Makgopa, Mothiba and Foster - they are all not there,'' added Broos.

The FIFA series is the only chance Broos has of getting Bafana ready to face Nigeria three months from now in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

He is desperate to have Evidence Makgopa and Lyle Foster back in the squad, while Lebo Mothiba is still recovering from surgery.

''I hope Makgopa and Foster will be ready in June, because those games are important. On Thursday we had too many chances but we did not finish them,'' he concluded.

As promised, Broos will name yet another changed line-up against Algeria.
