How Mozambique plan to contain Salah and Egypt

Mozambique and Kaizer Chiefs utility defender Edmilson Dove is confident they can stop Liverpool star player and Egypt’s captain Mo Salah in this evening’s Africa Cup of Nations clash.

Mozambique takes to the field for the first time in the AFCON in 14 years this evening against record seven-time champions Egypt.

The two teams meet in the first Group B game at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan at 17:00 (19:00 SA Time).

The Mambas last qualified for the AFCON in 2010, in Angola, they are back this time in a difficult Group B, which also has Ghana and Cape Verde.

This is how Dove and his teammates plan to contain Salah tonight.

"Ya, obviously that counts for every game not only at national team but I think at our clubs as well we already have systems that allow us to analyse the oppositions. We watched also the game and we got some videos of how he plays when he's on the national team. Those are just tools that will help us better ourselves but at the end of the day, it's a game of 11 players versus 11. We just have to apply ourselves correctly and everything else will fall into place," Dove said.

In October, Mozambique played two World Cup qualifiers, beating Botswana away 3-2 and losing 2-0 to Algeria at home.

As they prepare to meet Egypt, losing finalists two years ago in Cameroon to Senegal, Dove says these are the games they live for.

"I think as players those are games that you don't need anyone to motivate you. Playing against big teams in Africa that's what we're looking for. I think we are all excited, we are hoping that we will do well in this tournament. Not only against Egypt but against each and every team that we're gonna be facing."
