Host nation Morocco beat Ghana in tense penalty shootout to reach WAFCON final

Hosts Morocco reached the final of the Women's African Cup of Nations after beating Ghana 4-2 in a tense penalty shootout after the match finished 1-1 after extra-time.

The Black Queens stunned the home crowd at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat when they took the lead in the 26th minute with Stella Nyamekye finding the back of the net after she pounced on a loose ball in the box.

The home side, who were urged on by the setback, and certainly came into the game as the first half went on - roared on by an exciting crowd.

They deservedly got the equaliser ten minutes after the halftime break when Sakina Ouzraoui Diki bundled the ball into the net from close range after a sustained period of pressure.

Both sides had chances to win it in normal time, but neither could find a breakthrough with the match then moving into 30 minutes of extra-time.

Ghana had the best chance to win it but Evelyn Badu squandered the opportunity, heading narrowly wide from close-range.

The game then headed into the dreaded penalty shootout with Badu firing wide from the spot while Comfort Yeboah saw her effort saved by home goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi.

Morocco held their nerve and converted all four of their spot-kicks to send the crowd and home players into delirium with wild celebrations.

The host nation will now play Nigeria in the final on Saturday while Ghana will contest for the bronze medal against South Africa on Friday.
