Godfrey Mosoetsa tips experienced Kopo to make his mark in Premier Division

Veteran SuperSport United youth coach and former senior team manager Godfrey Mosoetsa believes that his former colleague Kwanele Kopo is destined for big things at his new club Chippa United as a co-coach.

Speaking to SABC Sport on Wednesday -  Mosoetsa, who has worked with Kopo for over two decades at Amatsatsansa a Pitori discovering gems all over the country for the club, reveals that the Eastern Cape-born coach Kopo has always been waiting for the big opportunity to coach at the professional level.

''Let's not forget that he has been with the national teams, so he gained a lot of experience, and he has not missed any stages. I see him doing well,'' said Mosoetsa.

After having worked with top coaches at United including South Africa’s most successful coach Pitso Mosimane, Gavin Hunt, and Stuart Baxter, Mosoetsa says Kopo’s wealth of experience in the local game at all levels, gives him a big advantage in the Premier Division.

''I found him here, a very knowledgeable person, very organised but underrated.  He always liked to work with coaches - coming from the youth structures,'' added Mosoetsa.

Together, Mosoetsa and Kopo transformed the United academy into one of the best in the country with limited resources at times as compared to clubs with big budgets.

Some of the players to have been scouted and nurtured by the two coaches include Daine Klate, Kermit Erasmus, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Thandani Ntshumayelo, Miguel Timm, Ronwen Williams, Teboho Mokoena, and Sipho Mbule and most recently Chandre Campbell just to count a few.

Mosoetsa counts over 30 players that they have helped to transform into top internationals at United together with Kopo.

''We've done a lot and to be honest with you when you look at the number of players that have gone through both hands, it is over 30 players,'' he concluded.

Mosoetsa hails from Kroonstad and is also very close to Golden Arrows head coach and former Bafana Bafana captain Steve Komphela, who also played a part in his coming to SuperSport United through his relationship with coach Pitso Mosimane.

He dropped a bombshell to SABC Sport on Wednesday, when he revealed that he will be retiring next year, but was quick to assure that he will not be lost to the game.

Meanwhile, Mosoetsa is also part of the MultiChoice and Premier Soccer League (PSL) Transition Programme, which held its second graduation at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

A former school teacher, the 59-year-old explains his role in this programme.
