Gian Piero Gasperini laments 'avoidable goal' in Roma's loss to Torino

Roma suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Torino in Serie A on Saturday but head coach Gian Piero Gasperini was happy with his team's performance overall.

The Giallorossi were beaten for the first time in the league this season after Giovanni Simeone scored in the second half for Torino.

Gasperini left both of his first-choice forwards, Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson, on the bench in favour of Paulo Dybala and Matias Soule, which he later admitted may have been a mistake.

"The 'lightweight' trio in attack was a possibility for us, but we weren't particularly dangerous in the first half," he told DAZN.

"Dybala had a small physical problem, so he had to come off. Let's hope it's nothing too serious.

Despite their struggles up front, Gasperini is confident his side played well and believes the result could have been very different if a bit of luck had gone their way.

"The match was decided by an avoidable goal. The energy was a little lower in this temperature and everything became more difficult," he said.

"Overall, we didn't play a bad game, we did well on the pitch. We could have sped up a little more in our movement of the ball.

"From the start, we were lacking the ability to shoot, make the last pass, the right final ball. You have to be careful not to concede goals at this temperature, because you are lacking in energy."
