George Linde outlines Cobras ambitions for 2026/27 season

Linde’s side take on Momentum Multiply Titans in their first match of the competition tomorrow evening in Centurion, and want to start on a positive note to lay down the marker for the rest of the tournament.

The Cobras have not won the T20 domestic title in over ten years, and Linde knows this is below expectations for a team of their star quality.

"The 4-Day series is the pinnacle of domestic cricket so you always want to win that, but if I look back over the last three to four years we haven't done as well as we wanted to in the T20 format. We have a lot of youngsters in the set-up and it's going to be cool to see them go out and express themselves."

With the competition combining Division 1’s T20 Challenge and Division 2’ T20 Knockout for this season, Linde is wary of the potential upsets by the lower division sides.

He says it’s a welcome opportunity for new talent to showcase their skills and impress the national selectors.

Linde is also excited with the rebrand of their name back to the Western Province Cobras, having returned to just Western Province in 2021 when Cricket SA did away with the franchise system to a provincial one.

He hopes they can also return to their glory days of those years when they were known by the Cobras name.
