Ferran Torres strikes twice to rescue PSG in Rennes Ligue 1 thriller

The game was moved to Rennes after damage to the pitch at the Parc des Princes, and the hosts made the most of the change of venue with a fast start.

Sebastian Szymanski opened the scoring after just nine minutes, firing a spectacular effort past Matvey Safonov after being found by Adrien Thomasson.

PSG thought they had equalised when Desire Doue finished well, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Luis Enrique's side continued to press, with Ousmane Dembele going close before Rennes doubled their advantage in the 38th minute.

Esteban Lepaul produced an excellent first-time finish from Przemyslaw Frankowski's cut-back to put Rennes 2-0 ahead at half-time.

Enrique responded by making changes at the break, bringing on Torres and Mika Godts. The move immediately gave PSG more attacking threat, although Brice Samba made important saves to deny Doue and Warren Zaire-Emery.

Torres eventually gave PSG hope in the 71st minute when he controlled Fabian Ruiz's long ball before calmly finding the net.

Five minutes later, Doue went close to an equaliser with a powerful effort that flew just over the bar. PSG did not have to wait much longer, though.

Torres completed his comeback by heading in another Fabian delivery to make it 2-2.

PSG pushed for a late winner, but Rennes held firm to claim a point and deny themselves a fifth successive victory in their opening Ligue 1 fixture.

Enrique admitted he was unhappy with aspects of PSG's first-half display but defended his decisions after the comeback.

"All the time they say it's easy to play in Ligue 1, but I remember no easy matches. The result for me is positive," Enrique said.

The PSG manager also insisted the two Rennes goals came from unusual situations rather than sustained dominance.

"I didn't anticipate the changes. Rennes scored two goals in two unique actions. I don't remember any easy away games," he said.

Enrique's decision to replace Dembele at half-time also attracted attention after the forward appeared frustrated. Dembele later said: "If everyone plays for themselves on the field, this is not going to work."

Enrique dismissed the comments.

"These statements are worthless. They are the result of anger after a game, and I think that is clear," he said.

Rennes manager Franck Haise acknowledged the impact of Enrique's half-time changes.

"It sends a strong message, but the outcome proved him right," Haise said.
