Fernando Da Cruz still looking to bolster Chiefs attack as he opens up on Cele and Lilepo

Chiefs have brought in only three new players, defender Thabo Moloisane, goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, and Tanzanian midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko. But it’s still the attack where the Frenchman feels that Amakhosi still needs to strengthen, as he assesses the squad that the team has currently.

"Compared to two years ago, the team has a more complimentary profile, the defensive part is better, we have a good defensive structure but now the next step is to work on the offensive part,” Da Cruz said.

“We spoke to the management to add more offensive players in the squad to have a complimentary profile for the moment."

The permanent addition of Khanyisa Mayo, who was on loan last season from CR Belouizdad, is the only addition in the Chiefs attack so far this season, as Da Cruz looks at critical positions in their attack that they need to strengthen and to have many more options.

"There are four positions in the offensive part, the strikers, two wingers and the offensive midfield, so we have good profiles at the moment that we asked the management to have different profiles,” the coach added.

“To have a renewed team to be able to play different football and to adapt this season and to be less predictable."

In what has shocked Chiefs fans a bit, Da Cruz’s comments that crowd favourite Thabo Cele is not on his plans for this season, as he doesn’t fit the profile of a holding midfielder that he prefers. 

This would explain why Cele wasn’t part of the pre-season camp in Spain, together with the outgoing attacker Glodly Lilepo, whom Da Cruz says the management is currently engaged with clubs that are interested in his services.
