Gavin Hunt still expecting more signings at Stellenbosch FC

Stellies have been one of the busier clubs during the transfer window with Thabiso Lebitso, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Tlakusani Mthethwa, George Matlou, Terrence Mashego, and Nathan Garrow all joining the Cape Winelands side. 

While Hunt admitted that he would have preferred to have all his new arrivals confirmed already, he will have plenty of time to get his troops together with the window only closing on September 22. 

"Obviously I wanted to have more players through the door but that didn't happen because obviously these things take time, transfers. So, that was a little bit frustrating from that perspective but very thankful to the club for allowing us to because I know it's a big expense to go to these types of things,” Hunt said.

“I'm really happy with the attitude, score in the games don't really matter for me. It's more about seeing or tryna get partnerships and as I say, one or two people go through the door which will more likely come late and that's always a little bit frustrating from the coach's perspective because that's what happens but I understand."

Stellies held their pre-season camp in Durban, with Hunt previously saying that the weather and amount of teams there informed his choice for the destination. 

He says he was mostly impressed with the young players at training, and he’s looking to infuse into the team this coming season.

"Well the most impressive thing from the camp for me was certainly the young players. I mean I'm really, really impressed, I think we've got five or six really, really good players,” the coach added.

“As I said, it rekindled my enthusiasm for the game a little bit because when you see young players and the way they performed, they were really good in the camp.

“Obviously they need to be tested in a real competitive environment but the friendlies were really good, especially the Thursday, Friday games on a good pitch, so we are happy about that. So, they are part of the squad, I put them in the squad and we'll see where we go."
