Fadlu Davids suggests writing was on the wall for Maritzburg United

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids suggested the writing was on the wall for his side after they were relegated from the DStv Premiership on Wednesday night.

Their fate to the lower league was finally sealed after getting a second bite at the cherry in the playoffs, but a goalless draw against Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday night wasn’t enough.

Davids says several dynamics contributed to the Team of Choice's demise.

"You know we already started working on the report [of the season], there were so many things [that happened and led to the club's relegation]," reacted Davids after the match.

"[If] you go into the history of [the last few seasons], myself – seventh position [2016/17], fourth position [2017/18], Steve Komphela – eighth position [2014/15], Eric Tinkler – sixth [2019/20] position, the rest of the time they were fighting relegation. So, ja.

"[Since 2015/16], fighting relegation so many times, it's not for the media but will be in my report as to how to restructure, because the potential in the city and the potential with the fans, and potential we have here in this club, we've let them down.

"It's really disappointing and I really feel sorry for the supporters, especially the chairman who has put his heart and soul into this club. I really feel sorry for him at this moment in time."
