Ezemvelo coach skeptical of new Hollywoodbets Super League format

Ezemvelo coach Nkosingiphile Maphumulo says the new Hollywoodbets Super League format may be tough for coaches because of the lesser number of games compared to last season.

The 16 team league will be divided into two formats, namely the Super Rise and Super Era groups.

With teams in these streams only facing each other during the playoffs. Maphumulo says this format may be taxing for the coaches.

“I believe for us coaches it’s more challenging to have less games because from 30 games to 14 games, you can see the difference. So I believe it’s more challenging, it doesn’t give you that room to grow,” Maphumulo said.

“You have to take it with a heat from the start, that’s the worst thing about these streams. It can be exciting for the players but for you as a coach, there’s more stress.”

However, First Touch Ladies coach Mmowa Kekana believes that these streams may assist teams that struggle financially with all the travelling.

Kekana has previously voiced his frustrations to the media about the expenses they accumulate when they have to travel consistently to different provinces for games.

“I cannot say much, we used to play without supporters the past seasons. It would be better if they play a roadshow, maybe in a group play twice. It’s something maybe that can help the game of women’s football to grow, I don’t think there’s a problem,” Kekana said.

“The way they put it, it also helps the coaches because you play once and you have enough time to prepare. Also it helps us to cope, you know, in women's football.”
