Elias Mokwana can match the best players in the league - Brandon Truter

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter believes Elias Mokwana is amongst the best attackers in the country.

Mokwana was awarded man of the match in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal.

He scored the opening goal inside the first minute and also had a telling contribution in sending his team to the last four.

Truter believes that Mokwana can match the likes of Monnapule Saleng, Thembinkosi Lorch, and other best players in the league.

"I think he's one of the top talents in South Africa. In terms of his individual tactics, and being composed on the ball, I think he's right up there with the best in the country. I think he can match Lorch and Saleng, he has that potential and talent but he needs to be nurtured. We have to bring him along nicely and I love the boy," he said.

For Truter this was a fulfilling result on many fronts as this was their first win over Chippa United since they came into existence and also their first passage into the semi-finals in the top flight.

"I'm very happy about the result. The performance doesn't even matter to me because it was really about getting into the next round. So much was at stake in this game, it was the first time Sekhukhune beat Chippa since our existence in the PSL. First time for us to get into the semi-final as well so for that we are happy," he explained.

But this is not Truter’s first semi-final appearance as he’s achieved that previously with Swallows and AmaZulu.

But he’s hoping that this one doesn’t come with some baggage as it has happened with his previous two clubs.

"The thing about semi-finals for me is every time I get into a semi-final, first season semi-final with Swallows, I got sacked. In the second season, the semi-final with AmaZulu, we were scoring all the goals, and I got sacked again. Here I find myself again in the semi-final, so I will speak to the boss. The opportunity is there to get to the final," he concluded.
