The 46-year-old resumed training duties on Thursday - his first appearance back at the club after a stint in hospital. He had been absent during Newcastle's recent victories over Manchester United and Crystal Palace, as well as their 4-1 defeat at Aston Villa. In his absence, assistants Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones stepped in to lead the team.
In a club statement, Newcastle said: "Newcastle United are delighted to confirm that Eddie Howe has returned to his duties at the club's Training Centre. Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery. We thank supporters for their warm wishes."
Newcastle currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, clinging to hopes of a Champions League spot with Chelsea just two points behind.
Saturday's match carries high stakes for both sides - while Newcastle push for Europe, Ipswich face potential relegation back to the Championship if they lose.
