Osula, who has been pushing for more first-team involvement, seized his chance with a lively performance capped by a brace.
"He's done himself no harm today. That will have done him the world of good on so many different levels," Howe told Sky Sports when asked about Osula.
"As a striker, you need to have that feeling. This was an opportunity he needed to grab and he did. It's the same for any player, so he puts himself very much in the forefront of my thoughts."
Newcastle had only managed four goals across all competitions before this tie, but matched that tally in one night at St James' Park.
Joelinton also netted twice, completing a dominant showing that saw the Magpies register 27 shots, with 11 on target.
For Bradford, there was at least one memorable moment, as Andy Cook - a lifelong Newcastle supporter - grabbed a consolation goal to the delight of the travelling fans. But the night firmly belonged to Howe's side, who finally found the cutting edge that has been lacking so far this season.
Newcastle's next test comes on Sunday when they host Arsenal at St James' Park.
