Durban City book place in Nedbank Cup final after edging Casric Stars

Durban City booked their place in this season's Nedbank Cup final after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Casric Stars at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

The game was decided by an own goal as early as the sixth minute when Casric defender Sphamandla Mlilo unfortunately turned the ball into his own net.

The home team came into the contest has favourites although the Motsepe League foundation outfit would look to continue their giant-killing spree in the tournament.

After conceding early, the visitors did have an opportunity to draw the scores level but Decide Chauke's glancing header sailed inches wide of Darren Keet's upright.

Durban City upped the tempo at the start of the second half and Jean Lubumba had an effort that sailed over the cross-bar.

Casric nearly scored a second own goal when Nhlanhla Ntuli saw his mistimed clearance also hit the tip of the bar.

In the end though, Durban City did just enough book their spot in the Nebank Cup final where they will take on TS Galaxy or Milford.
