DStv Premiership wrap: Newly promoted sides suffer defeat as PSL season starts

Both Cape Town Spurs and Polokwane City started life back in the South African top-flight with narrow losses on Sunday.

TS Galaxy 1-0 Cape Town Spurs

Cape Town Spurs were unfortunate to go down 1-0 to TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium.

It was unwelcome result for the DStv Premiership newbies who held out until the 86th minute when Cohen Stander was unfortunate to deflect the ball into his own net.

Spurs started well but without really threatening their opponents' goal as Galaxy held fast.

Both sides tried their best to play attacking, enterprising football but it was a game with limited chances, with Galaxy getting six shots on target to Spurs' two.

But ultimately the extra-pressure exerted on the Spurs defence, as the game drew to a close, proved to be decisive as Stander turned the ball home mistakenly for the Rockets.

Cape Town City 1-0 Polokwane City

Polokwane City were, meanwhile, all set to pick up a point from their first DStv Premiership clash since winning promotion last season, away to Cape Town City.

But with the game on its last legs, new signings Joaquim Paciencia pounced with a goal two minutes into injury time.

It had been an entertaining, end-to-end encounter with only the final product missing from both sides until Paciencia, who had only come on in the 77th minute, took his chance well.
