Dean Huijsen: I only had eyes for Real Madrid

Real Madrid have officially presented Dean Huijsen as their first signing of the transfer window, after activating the 20-year-old defender's 50 million pounds release clause from Bournemouth.

Huijsen, who signed a five-year deal, arrives following an impressive debut Premier League campaign that also saw him earn his first senior cap for Spain in March. Madrid beat out competition from several top European clubs to secure the highly rated centre-back.

At his unveiling on Tuesday, Huijsen made it clear that Real was always his preferred destination.

"Since Madrid called me, I didn't have eyes for any other team," he said. "This is the best club in the world. I'm here to work hard, stay humble, and win trophies - starting with the Club World Cup."

Club president Florentino Perez welcomed Huijsen at the Santiago Bernabeu, calling him "a modern centre-back" and "one of the great young talents in European football."

The signing follows the recent appointment of Xabi Alonso as head coach, with further additions expected, including Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold later this week.

Huijsen confirmed that he has already spoken with Alonso about his potential role.

"We've talked about what he expects from me. I think I fit well with his football and I'm ready to contribute," said Huijsen, who will wear the No. 24 shirt.

The young defender also revealed that former Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, his childhood idol, had reached out to him after the move was confirmed.

"(Ramos) is the best centre-back in history, and he sent me a message when the transfer became official. That meant a lot," Huijsen added.

Real Madrid will travel to Florida this weekend to begin preparations for the FIFA Club World Cup. They face Al Hilal in their opening match in Miami on June 18.
