Cup boost fuels Durban City ahead of Chiefs test

Durban City midfielder Thabo Nodada believes their progression to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup has boosted the squad’s confidence ahead of this afternoon’s league encounter with Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium at 15:30.

The Citizens head into the fixture in encouraging form, unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions as they continue an impressive campaign since returning to top-flight football this season.

With the team pushing for a strong finish in the league standings, Nodada says they expect a demanding contest as the 2025/26 campaign moves into its decisive phase.

"Coming from the hype of winning the Nedbank Cup match to advance to the semifinal, we are feeling pretty confident in our ability as a team. It's the business end of the season and every team is fighting for a good position. The boys know what's at stake and we're ready for this game."

Nodada says experienced players in the squad understand the importance of guiding the younger members during key moments, particularly with the final stretch of the season approaching.

He adds that leadership on and off the field becomes crucial with just ten league matches remaining.

A victory over Kaizer Chiefs would move Durban City up to third place on the league table, strengthening their push for a top finish.

Nodada says maintaining their recent run of results is essential, and collecting maximum points will ensure the team keeps building momentum heading into the closing weeks of the season.

"It's very important to keep the momentum. Over the last four or five games, we've got stuck in and we've gotten the results. This game is no different, I don't see why we can't go over there and win."
