Captain Cristiano Ronaldo, despite an injury, scored a crucial equalizer and led emotional celebrations, with Ruben Neves sealing victory in the shootout after Diogo Costa saved Alvaro Morata's penalty.
Ronaldo, overcome with emotion post-match, said, "This is immense joy for our generation and families. Winning for Portugal is unmatched. We're a small nation with huge ambition, and captaining this team is my pride."
On his injury, he added, "It bothered me in the warm-up, but for Portugal, I'd push through anything. I gave my all and scored."
The Lisbon final saw both sides trade early chances. Portugal, managed by Spanish-born Roberto Martinez, nearly struck first when Bernardo Silva's corner found Joao Neves, whose volley skimmed wide.
Spain countered, with Nico Williams teeing up Pedri, who fired just off-target.
Spain took the lead through Martin Zubimendi, who capitalized on a half-cleared cross from Lamine Yamal.
Portugal responded swiftly, as Nuno Mendes blasted a fierce shot into the far corner. Just before halftime, Mikel Oyarzabal restored Spain's advantage, converting Pedri's pinpoint pass.
Portugal's fightback continued after the break. A Bruno Fernandes goal was ruled out for offside, but Ronaldo leveled the score at 2-2, pouncing on a deflected Mendes cross.
Despite a late Isco chance, thwarted by Costa's heroics, the game went to extra time and then penalties.
In the shootout, Portugal were flawless, and Costa's save from Morata paved the way for Neves to clinch the 5-3 victory. Portugal became the first nation to win the Nations League twice.
Ronaldo hailed MartÃnez, saying, "He's Spanish but gave everything for us. This hunger defines us."
On his Al Nassr future, Ronaldo confirmed, "I'm staying. Nothing changes."
Al Nassr's recent X post celebrated their star, stating, "Cristiano shines again! His goal and leadership bring Portugal the crown."
Spain, despite their attacking flair, couldn't defend their title. Portugal's resilience, driven by Ronaldo's heroics, cemented their place in Nations League history.
