Alvarez has reportedly wanted to leave Atletico this transfer window, saying it would be best for everyone if he was allowed to move on. However, the Spanish club have stood firm and kept the Argentina striker.
Romero, who joined Atletico from Tottenham on a five-year deal worth 40 million euros, said he has seen no sign of Alvarez being distracted by the speculation.
"Julian, I see him doing very well," Romero said at his presentation.
"I've been here for five or six days, and I see him as always, a guy who wants to keep scoring goals, keep entertaining people, and I see him really focused."
Neither Alvarez nor Romero featured in Atletico's 2-0 victory over Malaga in their opening La Liga game on Wednesday.
Atletico coach Diego Simeone has made it clear he wants to build his team around Alvarez, while he has also challenged Romero to take on a leadership role.
"(Simeone) asked me to be a leader on the pitch, to help my teammates," Romero said.
"I hope to be up to the challenge and carve my name into the history of this great club."
Romero and Alvarez were both part of Argentina's 2022 World Cup-winning squad and will now look to help Atletico challenge for honours this season.
Atletico's next La Liga match is at home against Villarreal on Sunday.
