Confirmed: Mamelodi Sundowns release two players

The agent representing defender Rivaldo Coetzee and midfielder Sipho Mbule has confirmed to SABC Sport that the duo will be leaving Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the season.

“Yes, their options to extend were not exercised, and they have become free agents,” said Mike Makaab of ProSport International when asked about the respective futures of his two clients at Chloorkop.

Mbule spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Sekhukhune United, and despite initially impressing, the club opted against making the move permanent due to ongoing disciplinary issues – one of them allegedly arriving in camp while intoxicated on more than one occasion.

Although Coetzee travelled with Sundowns to Cairo for the CAF Champions League second leg final against Pyramids, he was merely a member of the travelling party; the utility player hasn’t featured since October last year.

The former Ajax Cape Town star has battled with injuries throughout his Downs career, having joined them in 2017 when his potential transfer to Scottish giants Celtic fell through.

Mbule had signed for Sundowns five years later from crosstown rivals SuperSport United, following interest from Kaizer Chiefs.

Both are now free agents and will look for a fresh start in the coming weeks while Sundowns jet off to the USA to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup early next week to face Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense.
