Confederation Cup wrap: SuperSport concede late to draw with Gaborone

SuperSport United were denied a win late by a Gaborone United goal as they drew 1-1 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie in Botswana on Saturday.

The hosts had a better first half and were denied by Washington Arubi on two occasions. SuperSport United took the lead in the 48th minute through Keenan Bezuidenhout, but Gaborone United equalised in added time through Sheikh Sesay.

SuperSport United have an away goal advantage going into the second leg in two weeks, but they will need to be wary of Gaborone United, who were the better team for much of the first leg.

Gaborone United started the match brightly and had two good chances to score in the opening 10 minutes. However, Washington Arubi was in inspired form, making two brilliant saves to keep the score goalless.

SuperSport United grew into the game as the first half progressed, but they were unable to create any clear-cut chances. The half ended with the score 0-0.

Gaborone United continued to press for the opening goal in the second half, but it was SuperSport United who broke the deadlock in the 48th minute. Keenan Bezuidenhout, who had just been introduced, finished off a neat move to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Gaborone United pushed for an equaliser and they were finally rewarded in added time. Sheikh Sesay curled a beautiful free-kick into the top corner to make it 1-1.

Sekhukhune United cruise to win over Saint Eloi Lupopo

Sekhukhune United secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Saint Eloi Lupopo in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Limpopo side got off to the perfect start when Chibuike Ohizu opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but the Congolese outfit drew level four minutes later through Mokonzi Katumbwe.

Sekhukhune restored their lead in the 40th minute when Jamie Webber found the back of the net with a free-kick, and they made it 3-1 ten minutes into the second half thanks to Tresor Tshibwabwa's first goal of the campaign.

The hosts were able to see out the closing stages and will take a healthy lead into the second leg in two weeks.
