Chiefs open transfer talk with Arrows

Kaizer Chiefs are continuing with their recruitment drive, and SABC Sport understands their latest target is Bafana Bafana attacker Pule Mmodi.

The Golden Arrows star is currently in the final few weeks of his contract but the club still has the option to trigger a one-year extension, and indications are that it will be taken.

Although there have been suggestions that Mmodi has signed for Amakhosi, it is thought that talks between the two sides have only just recently begun and are currently at an advanced stage, with Arrows said to be keen on selling the player.

Mmodi joined Arrows in October 2020 from lower division side Uthongathi and really came to the fore in the 2020/21 season, in what was a remarkable campaign for the club as they finished in fourth place on the DStv Premiership log under then coach Mandla Ncikazi.

That performance put Mmodi on Bafana coach Hugo Broos' radar and the Free State-born player has on several occasions been called up to the national team since then.

A potential move to Chiefs would be the next big step in Mmodi™s career but the Soweto giants have already been on a massive shopping spree, with the signing of Zitha Kwinika and Ashley Du Preez from Stellenbosch FC.

Should Abafana Bes'thende's valuation of Mmodi then require Amakhosi to break the bank then that would hurt the potential transfer.

The Glamour Boys are also after Yusuf Maart of Sekhukhune United as well the Swallows FC trio of Dillon Solomons, George Matlou and Kamohelo Mahlatsi.

When contacted for comment, Mmodi told SABC Sport that his contract is coming to an end, although Arrows have an option and are yet to confirm the activation thereof.
