Chiefs confirm several major departures

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of a coach and a number of senior players as they begin their squad overhaul under newly appointed head coach Arthur Zwane.

Chiefs on Wednesday announced their decision not to retain the services of goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter, who spent the past four years at the club.

Baxter leaves shortly following the departure of his father, Stuart, who was relieved of the head coach position in April, as his contract runs up at the end of this month.

The Club and goalkeeper Coach Lee Baxter are going their separate ways. Lee arrived at Chiefs in February 2018 and worked with a number of Head Coaches and goalkeepers.

Strikers Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro and Lazarous Kambole, as well as former PSL Footballer of the Season Lebogang Manyama, midfielder Kearyn Baccus, defender Daniel Cardoso and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi have all been notified that they will not be retained.

Nurkovic's deal is set to run out at the end of June, and will now be allowed to move on to take the next step in his career, which is reportedly with KwaZulu Natal high-rollers Royal AM, who have qualified for next season's CAF Confederation Cup in their maiden top-flight campaign.

Kambole, who managed just two goals in 46 appearances since his arrival from ZESCO United in 2019, will also be moving on following his underwhelming stay at the club, during which he amassed two goals in his 46 appearances.

Castro moves on after four years with the Glamour Boys, for whom he netted 27 times in 122 appearances, since his move from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018.

Meanwhile, Manyama, Baccus, Cardoso and Akpeyi will also not have their contracts renewed beyond the end of this month, as the club look to reduce their wage bill.

Chiefs have already confirmed the signings of Ashley Du Preez and Zitha Kwinika from Stellenbosch FC, while SABC Sport understands that Raja Casablanca midfielder Fabrice Ngoma has also been offered to them ahead of the 2022/23 season.
