Chelle announces Super Eagles squad for AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has named a 24-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

The Malian coach is set to lead the Nigerian national team later this month when they host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 25, before travelling to battle Guinea-Bissau.

Chelle has included three goalkeepers, nine defenders, four midfielders and eight forwards, including star striker Victor Osimhen, who is recovering from injury sustained with Galatasaray.

Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also returns to the side after having last played for his nation during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, while Saudi-based Al-Ittihad striker George Ilenikhena and LASK [Austria] winger Moses Usor receive first call-ups.

The Super Eagles will be looking to improve on their bronze medal finish in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco as they seek a fourth continental title.

Nigeria squad:

Goalkeepers: Arthur Okonkwo, Stanley Nwabali, and Maduka Okoye

Defenders: Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyeamachi, Isaac James, Benjamin Frederick, Emmanuel Fernandez, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, and Chibuike Nwaiwu.

Midfielders: Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Raphael Onyedika.

Forwards: Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Akor Adams, Victor Osimhen, Tolu Arokodare, George Ilenikhena, Moses Usor.
