This was confirmed by CAF President Patrice Motsepe during a press conference held after the CAF Executive Committee meeting in Rabat, Morocco, this past weekend.
"Today, we received communication from the head of the joint investigation committee, and as CAF, we want to express our deep gratitude to this committee.
"Their report makes it very clear that there was no conduct that amounted to money being stolen, like some people on the outside have suggested. The committee discovered that absolutely nothing was wrong," stated the CAF Chief.
Motsepe says lessons have been learned from this investigation, and going forward, they will ensure that they shut down any weaknesses or loopholes in governance areas within CAF.
Mosengo-Omba, formerly a FIFA head of membership, joined CAF four years ago as the GS, shortly after Motsepe was appointed for the first time as the continental football body president. The South African mining mogul says he's pleased that he has been cleared of any wrongdoing and can continue with his work.
"I also want to thank the secretary general because there was a lot of speculation and perceptions in the media about the SG's conduct, and I'm enormously proud that the behavior and conduct within the secretariat aligns with the total commitment of CAF.
"It's important that we don't just comply with governance and ethical standards, but also that there is a positive perception from all our stakeholders," said Motsepe.
A Swiss and Democratic Republic of Congo citizen, Mosengo-Omba, was a relieved man after the release of this report.
"I was nervous when all of this was going on, but I am happy with the outcome and to continue my work; other than that, I don't have any other comment," said Mosengo-Omba.
Motsepe says part of the allegations against Mosengo-Omba were interpersonal issues in the workplace that don’t have to be debated at the level of the CAF Executive Committee, as this serves no purpose for the organisation.
Meanwhile, Motsepe also announced that former FIFA council member, CAF Exco member and former President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, would be his new advisor. He also revealed that SAFA President Danny Jordaan will also retain his role as one of his two advisors at CAF.
