CAF Champions League: Sundowns kick off group stage with victory

Mamelodi Sundowns began their CAF Champions League group stage with a resounding 3-0 victory over FC Nouadhibou at Loftus Versfeld.

Under the guidance of Rulani Mokwena, the Brazilians showcased clinical efficiency, breaking down Nouadhibou's defensive resilience.

Lucas Ribeiro Costa opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, followed by Peter Shalulile's header from Marcelo Allende's corner in the 28th.

The third goal came in the 74th minute when substitute Gaston Sirino converted a well-worked free-kick after being fouled just outside the box.

Despite Nouadhibou's solid defensive structure, Sundowns maintained an offensive stance, dominating possession with over 60% in the first half. The 2-0 halftime lead was a result of determined attacking play and clinical finishing.

This victory places Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of Group A, leading on goal difference over Pyramids FC.

The team demonstrated commendable work ethic and perseverance, dismantling the organised defence set up by Nouadhibou's coach Aritz López Garai.

The Brazilians' early success in the CAF Champions League sets a promising tone for the rest of their campaign, reflecting their ambition to make a significant impact in the prestigious tournament.
