Caf Champions League: Mamelodi Sundowns go down to TP Mazembe

Mamelodi Sundowns went down 1-0 in their Caf Champions League group A encounter against TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Saturday.

Mamelodi Sundowns went down 1-0 in their Caf Champions League group A encounter against TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Saturday.

The South African side dominated possession but conceded on the hour mark when Glody Likonza headed past goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

Sundowns will rue their lack of ruthlessness in front goal as they failed to create any clear-cut opportunities despite having most of the ball in the contest.

Themba Zwane should have done better just before halftime but saw his effort brush the upright and go wide when he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Khuliso Mudau had the ball in the back on the net early into the second half, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The woodwork then came to the home side's rescue when a shot from Lucas Ribeiro struck the crossbar.

The defeat leaves Sundowns on three points from two games after opening their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Mauritanian outfit FC Nouadhibou.
