Verdict on SuperSport United versus Golden Arrows fixture confirmed

SABC Sport has established that the postponed Betway Premiership fixture between SuperSport United and Golden Arrows will resume from the second half on a date yet to be scheduled.

It’s understood the ruling was finally delivered this week on a match that was abandoned at half-time on 23 February when the score was 1-1 due to Lucas Moripe Stadium being hit by load shedding.

Then coach Gavin Hunt was meant to celebrate a career milestone of 1000 games in the dugout, but the party was spoiled by failure to arrange a generator to counter the scheduled power cut.

Hunt has since been fired and replaced by Andre Arendse in the interim.

Now, almost three months later the public broadcaster has been informed that SuperSport, the home side responsible for seeing to it that there was adequate lighting on the day, had the award go in their favour.

The match had initially been halted temporarily when floodlights failed because of load shedding, but the referee allowed the game to continue under natural lights so as to reach the half-time break.

Following consultation with both teams, it was later confirmed the league clash would be halted and the PSL left to decide the way forward.

SuperSport had taken the lead via attacker Chrisitan Saile in the fourth minute, but midfielder Velemseni Ndwandwe cancelled it out before the recess.

According to information gathered by SABC Sport the game will resume from the second half – so only 45 minutes will be played.

Both teams are not yet out of the woods yet in as far as the avoiding going into the play-offs and will desperately need those points depending on how SuperSport fare against Orlando Pirates tonight.

Arrows host Sekhukhune United on Saturday, while Matsatsantsa welcome Richards Bay before they close off their season with the abandoned match.
