Bayern sweat on Neuer as Musiala misses Arsenal Champions League showdown

Bayern Munich are sweating over Manuel Neuer's fitness ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Arsenal, while Jamal Musiala has been ruled out as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury.

Neuer has missed Bayern's last two matches against Viking FK and RB Leipzig, with Jonas Urbig stepping in between the posts. The initial plan was to rest the veteran goalkeeper for the 6-1 victory over Leipzig to ensure he was ready for the Arsenal test.

However, fresh concerns have emerged over Neuer's availability after he suffered a problem with his foot.

"There was simply a little fluid in his foot. He wasn't ready for today yet. We'll see whether he'll be ready by Wednesday," Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said on Saturday.

Neuer's chances of playing will depend on whether he can return to team training early this week. If he remains unavailable, Urbig is likely to start against Arsenal.

The 23-year-old impressed in Bayern's win over Leipzig and made it clear he was ready to step up whenever required.

"I try to go into games with a positive emotion. I feel very good," Urbig said after his first Allianz Arena appearance of the season.

"We want to be ready so the coach has the possibility to decide who starts every time. I hope Manu (Neuer) will come back soon. I'll be there whenever I'm needed."

Urbig also praised Bayern's attacking display after they returned to winning ways with a convincing performance against Leipzig.

"We had a convincing performance from start to finish. It was a lot of fun on the pitch today," he said. "The ease to score goals, which was a bit missing in recent games, was there again today. Lucho (Diaz) scored three, Harry doesn't stop scoring goals."

Meanwhile, Musiala will miss the Arsenal match as he continues his recovery from the thigh injury he sustained during the international break.

"I don't think he'll be ready in time for Arsenal. He's now gradually being eased back in, but he will return during October," Eberl said.
