Bayern Munich's FIFA Club World Cup plan excludes goalkeeper Jonas Urbig

Bayern Munich have secured their FIFA Club World Cup knockout spot, but young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig will stay benched unless Manuel Neuer is injured, coach Vincent Kompany has confirmed.

Speaking at a press conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, ahead of Bayern's final group match against Benfica on Tuesday, Kompany underlined Neuer's unchallenged role as first-choice goalkeeper.

"We discussed this very clearly," Kompany said. "Manu's role is to take us as far as possible as number one, with his performances, leadership, and qualities. There's no debate about that. When Manu is fit, we're all very happy."

The decision keeps 22-year-old Urbig, who skipped Germany's U21 European Championship to join Bayern's campaign, on the sidelines.

Kompany praised his potential, saying, "We have a very good future perspective with Jonas. Being part of this squad is a great experience for him."

Bayern's recent X post showcased Neuer's training saves, captioned, "Manu in form  #FCBayern ready for Benfica," reinforcing his dominance. Urbig's patience highlights his commitment, though fans await his chance to shine.
