Bayer Leverkusen star Alejandro Grimaldo wants to play in LaLiga again

Alejandro Grimaldo has reaffirmed his ambition to end his career in LaLiga, with the Bayer Leverkusen defender maintaining that a return to Spain's top flight remains a key long-term objective.

The Spanish left-back, now 31 and set to turn 31 in September, continues to be a central figure for Bayer Leverkusen despite a challenging season for the club.

Grimaldo originally revealed his desire to play in LaLiga in August 2025 during an interview with Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger, and has since reiterated that stance, insisting the goal has not changed.

"I've always said it: I want to return to LaLiga," said Grimaldo.

"That's one of my goals. I'm very happy at Bayer Leverkusen, but I've always said that I want to return to LaLiga, and some day I will."

On the pitch, he produced another highly productive campaign, contributing 14 goals and 12 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions, underlining his attacking influence from defence.

Leverkusen, however, endured a disappointing year domestically, finishing sixth in the Bundesliga and therefore missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification.
