The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international set up Arda Guler for Real Madrid's opening goal before getting on the scoresheet himself in the 84th minute.
Despite Diomande's contribution, Mourinho believes the winger still has plenty of room to develop, particularly when it comes to making the most of his chances in front of goal.
"I am very happy with Diomande. He has a lot to work on, and he has many things he needs to improve. He needs to work on his finishing," Mourinho said.
"He gets to a lot of dangerous positions, but he needs to learn to relax more and make a better decision in last touch," the Portuguese coach added.
Diomande, who joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig in a high-value transfer, has impressed with his movement and ability to threaten opposition defences. His goal and assist against Sevilla underlined his attacking potential.
Real Madrid will face RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League league stage at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, giving Diomande another opportunity to build on his performance against Sevilla.
