Banyana Banyana look for consolation in WAFCON 3rd/4th place playoff

Banyana Banyana star Jermaine Seoposenwe says it will be a good consolation to return home with a bronze medal when they face Ghana in the WAFCON third and fourth place playoff on Friday.

This comes after South Africa’s title defence hopes were shattered in a 2-1 defeat to the Super Falcons on Tuesday evening.

Speaking at the pre-match presser, Seoposenwe says the team is overall disappointed for failing to retain the title.

"I mean, playing in the third and fourth place is disappointing to say the least but I think as professionals we definitely just have to step up and take responsibility for what this match brings,” Seoposenwe said.

“At the end of the day as African Champions going home with a medal will still be somewhat of a consolation but I think the team is still motivated. We're here and we have to accept where we are as a group and still go out there and fight in our last match in this tournament.

“I think just to reconcile for what has happened and not making it to the final and not retaining our title, a bronze medal will suffice at the moment since nothing else we can play for but I believe that the team will be ready and the team will be focused."

The forward announced that she will be hanging her boots after this year’s WAFCON, and will tomorrow be playing her final match in a Banyana Banyana jersey.

She has thanked everyone who supported her journey as he looks to claim her 110th cap.

"I just want to thank everyone that has had an opportunity to just pour into me, into the player that I've become today and the person that I've become because of football because it has really shaped my life for the better and I'm so grateful for everything that it's brought me."
