Baby Wolves look to rise above the pressure

University of Fort Hare FC coach Simphiwe Mafene, admits that they are feeling the pressure ahead of hosting the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns ladies on Sunday.

The students will look to maintain the winning feeling after a 1-0 away win against Ezemvelo FC.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Mafene says that even though they have great respect for Sundowns, they will still need to treat this match like any other match.

“Honestly, going to play Mamelodi Sundowns ladies is a lot of pressure on its own. I believe we need to approach this game like any other game. They are a big institution in this football industry, and they are the champions.

“At the moment our team needs to focus on the recovery process and build up for the week ahead,’’ said Mafene.

The Baby Wolves’ win in KwaZulu-Natal this past week saw them climb up to third spot on the log with 39 points after 22 games.

Mafene says adding new players and trying out new combinations has been a key factor.

“We brought about 18 players from different teams. We had hoped that these players would help Fort Hare to establish a new identity and add new dynamics.

“The technical team has received great support from the management, and we will forever be grateful for that,’’ added Mafene.

Mafene adds that he’s impressed that the team has shown great progress in a short space of time as the Hollywoodbets Super League newcomers.

“Well, to be quite honest, this is so amazing, it is a proud moment for us that within a short space of time we already see the team’s impact in the Hollywoodbets Super League.”
