Dowman becomes youngest scorer as Arsenal down Everton at the Emirates
Viktor Gyokeres and 16-year-old Max Dowman struck late as Arsenal edged Everton at the Emirates on Saturday night, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to 10 points.
Everton looked set to frustrate the Gunners and earn a draw, until Gyokeres tapped in the 89th minute after Jordan Pickford misjudged a cross.
In a desperate chase for an equaliser, Everton sent everyone forward for a late corner, but with Pickford stranded upfield, Dowman raced past two defenders to slot into an empty net in stoppage time (around the 97th minute), sending Emirates Stadium into wild celebration.
The goal made history, with the 16-year-old becoming the youngest scorer in Premier League history at 16 years and 70 days, breaking James Vaughan's previous record of 16 years and 270 days.
The victory temporarily sent the Gunners 10 points clear of second-placed Man City with seven games remaining, though the Citizens had two games in hand and were still to face West Ham later that evening.
Newcastle stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with Gordon winner
Newcastle dealt a blow to Chelsea's hopes of securing a UEFA Champions League place with a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, sealed by an early goal from Anthony Gordon.
Gordon scored the decisive strike in the 18th minute, sliding in from close range after Joe Willock broke the offside trap to reach a pass from Tino Livramento. It proved enough to give Newcastle their first away league win over Chelsea since 2012.
Chelsea had started brightly and created several early opportunities. Wesley Fofana headed over from a promising position, while Alejandro Garnacho, Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez also threatened before Gordon's breakthrough.
The hosts pushed hard for an equaliser after the break. Substitute Liam Delap quickly tested Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, while Garnacho saw another effort blocked by Sven Botman.
Captain Reece James struck a free-kick against the post in stoppage time, but they could not find a way through.
The defeat left Chelsea fifth in the Premier League table, having played a game more than several rivals, while Newcastle climbed to ninth after back-to-back wins over Manchester United and Chelsea.
