The 29-year-old Danish defender joined Barcelona from Chelsea in the summer of 2022 on a four-year deal and has been a dependable performer when fit, but recurring injuries have disrupted his consistency this season, including a recent leg issue in early November that sidelined him briefly.
With the Catalan club expected to make major squad changes ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, including early planning for defensive reinforcements, Christensen's future remains uncertain, reports indicate Barcelona have decided against renewing his contract for now.
Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Christensen said he is not allowing contract speculation to affect his focus. "I think we're in a good situation and there's nothing that can change what I do in my day-to-day life," he said. "Of course, you want to be clear about it and know what's going to happen, but it's not something that changes our mood during the day or something we talk about."
Barcelona are reportedly planning for a significant rebuild, with Robert Lewandowski, whose own deal also runs until 2026, unlikely to be offered an extension, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen facing speculation over a potential exit amid interest from clubs like Manchester United and ongoing tensions with the board.
Christensen, however, has made it clear that his wish is to stay at the club he calls "home."
"No, I don't have any feeling about it, not yet," Christensen admitted. "I just prefer to focus on being part of the team and playing as much as I can. I hope to stay, but for now I have to take things as they come. If there is anything to be done, my agent will handle it.
"Of course I'd like to know what's going on, but I'd rather focus on what I can do. I don't have a plan B."
Barcelona have valued Christensen's calmness and composure in defence, but with emerging talents like 18-year-old Pau Cubarsi and the established Ronald Araujo taking central roles, competition for places remains fierce.
Even if Christensen is not offered a new deal, Atletico Madrid are among several La Liga sides understood to be monitoring his situation closely. For now, the Danish international remains determined to prove he still has a key role to play at the heart of Barcelona's defence.
