The result extended Marseille's unbeaten home record against Strasbourg to 19 Ligue 1 matches, with 11 wins and eight draws.
Both clubs began the campaign under new managers, but Bruno Genesio enjoyed the far better debut as Marseille boss. His side started with purpose and created several early chances, with Angel Gomes twice coming close inside the opening 15 minutes.
Gomes, back at Marseille after a loan spell at Wolves, saw his first effort narrowly miss the target before shooting straight at Filip Jorgensen after finding space inside the Strasbourg penalty area.
The visitors gradually settled and Gessime Yassine tested Marseille goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange at his near post. However, Jorgensen produced Strasbourg's best moment of the half when he tipped Amine Harit's curling effort over the crossbar.
That save only delayed Marseille's breakthrough.
Less than a minute after the restart, Igor Paixao produced a fine piece of skill on the left before finding Gomes. The midfielder then picked out Gouiri, who swept the ball beyond Jorgensen to score the first goal of the new Ligue 1 campaign.
Strasbourg's task became even harder when Samir El Mourabet was shown a straight red card for kicking out at Marseille midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Marseille quickly took advantage of their numerical superiority. Paixao was brought down in the penalty area after capitalising on Guela Doue's mistake, and Gouiri calmly sent Jorgensen the wrong way from the spot to complete his brace.
The hosts continued to push for more and added two late goals.
Substitute Keyliane Abdallah marked his senior breakthrough with a low finish at the near post, before Hojbjerg capped an impressive Marseille performance with a composed volley that found the net.
