Paris Saint-Germain sign Belgian winger Mika Godts for 55 million euros

Paris Saint-Germain have continued their aggressive recruitment by signing Belgium winger Mika Godts from Ajax for a fee that could rise to 55 million euros including add-ons.

The 21-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the European champions, adding another highly rated attacking option to Luis Enrique's squad. Godts arrives after a breakthrough campaign in the Netherlands in which he scored 17 Eredivisie goals and provided 13 assists, establishing himself as a key player for Ajax.

"I feel incredibly proud to be joining one of the best clubs in the world," Godts said. "I can't wait to pull on this shirt and experience the Parc des Princes and its supporters.

"I'll give my all on the pitch to repay the faith placed in me by President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique."

Godts began his development at Anderlecht before moving to Genk and subsequently Ajax, where he initially played for Jong Ajax before earning a regular place in the senior team. His performances last season also earned him a Belgium debut in March against the United States, although he was left out of the country's World Cup squad.

Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff admitted the Dutch club would have preferred to retain the winger.

"Mika is an excellent player with very specific qualities, and we are going to miss him tremendously," Cruyff said. "We did not want to lose him and would have preferred to keep him here for at least another season. However, when you perform at Ajax at such a high level, clubs of this caliber come knocking.
