Ambition to win it all lured Darian Wilken back to Raja Casablanca

Raja Casablanca assistant coach Darian Wilken has opened up about his decision to follow Fadlu Davids back to North Africa for a second stint with The Green Eagles.

The pair have worked closely together since their time at Orlando Pirates in 2019, going on to spells at Maritzburg United and Simba SC in Tanzania, before reuniting once again in Morocco.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Wilken explained what drew them back to the Botola Pro League outfit and why a return to Raja Casablanca felt inevitable.

“It’s a North African giant with the potential to win everything. You see the facilities that we work at on a day-in, day-out basis.”

Davids has now been appointed as the head coach having first been at the club as Jozef Zinnbauer’s second in command – with Wilken part of the technical team.

Wilken says they believe it’s possible to win everything with Raja.

“I think the biggest proponent for us was the environment and the possibility of the success we could have if we work at our highest level. If we are able to achieve what we want to achieve, Raja gives you all the possibilities to do that, and that was the reason for us coming.”

Following failed promises and unpaid salaries despite winning the league, Davids and Wilken headed for the exit but the latter says they were lured back by change.

Wilken says the long-term plan at Raja Casablanca is clear, but insists the technical team cannot lose sight of immediate results.
