Alex Iwobi explains why Nottingham Forest move fell through

Alex Iwobi admits he was close to joining Nottingham Forest following his Everton exit before ultimately signing for Fulham.

The 28-year-old Nigerian attacker made his name at Premier League Arsenal after coming up through the youth ranks.

He went on to play 149 times for the Gunners, scoring 15 goals and creating 23.

With the Toffees, Iwobi found the target nine times, alongside 16 assists, in 140 appearances.

He has 15 goals in 73 Fulham games, with eight assists, and explains there was interest from an in-form Forest back in 2023.

The Super Eagles midfielder, who has been excellent for the ninth-placed Cottagers in the Premier League this season, said on Pulse Sports Nigeria: "There was interest, the main interest came from Nottingham Forest.

"The manager at the time he called me and he asked what I was thinking about joining. Ten minutes later, Ola (Aina) has called me and he's like, 'Alex, you coming Nottingham Forest, the manager just called me and said persuade Alex'.

"I could have been linking up with Ola, but eventually they didn't put in a bid and only Fulham did, so that was that."
