AFCON impact sparks big club interest in Msendami

Zimbabwean and Marumo Gallants international attacker Daniel Msendami has had a good Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament and was one of the most exciting players for the Warriors in Morocco.

With that kind of showing, he also believes that now it could be the time for him to make a step up to another big club in the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL’s) Premier Division.

Msendami has previously been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, and these are rumours that he’s also not distancing himself from...

"We play in order to someday play for top clubs in top leagues, and I will keep on pushing  and as time goes on I'll get a better offer where I can go to showcase my talent.

"I don't want to talk about my current contract. There was concrete interest in me before the season started, but if clubs were interested in me they would've taken me.

"For now, I'll keep on pushing and try to score more goals in the league."

Against Bafana Bafana, Msendami was difficult to mark and launched some of his team’s attacks from his wing, but he was also equally up against one of the best right-backs in Africa---in Khuliso Mudau.

He also says playing in the PSL prepared him well for this tournament.

Zimbabwe exited the tournament with two losses against Egypt and Bafana Bafana, having also played to a one-all draw against Angola.

Despite exiting in the group stages, finishing bottom of Group B with just one point, Msendami is taking some positives from this 35th edition of the AFCON...

"It's a very very disappointing journey, but I think we can take some positives because we are coming from a ban, but we've managed to put it behind us and qualify for AFCON, so there is a lot for us to build on."

Egypt and Bafana are the only teams to have progressed from Group B to the knockout stages, and Msendami believes their neighbours have a good team in this tournament.

"In our team, there are so many players who play in the PSL in South Africa so we know one another very well and we had a great analysis of them.

"It was a good end-to-end game, although we made some mistakes."
