The switch brings an end to a difficult 18-month spell in east London for the Germany international. Fullkrug joined West Ham from Borussia Dortmund in a 27 million pounds deal in 2024 but struggled to make a consistent impact in the Premier League, hampered by fitness issues and a lack of form. He scored just three goals in 29 appearances for the Hammers during his time at the club.
Now 32, Fullkrug has already arrived in northern Italy and trained with his new team-mates as Milan look to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the campaign. The Rossoneri are firmly in the Serie A title race, sitting second in the table and just one point behind city rivals Internazionale.
Confirming his departure, Fullkrug posted a message on Instagram thanking West Ham supporters and staff. "The past one and a half years didn't go as I - and surely you all - had imagined," he wrote. "I want to thank you for your support, even when things weren't always easy. There are truly special people at WHU, and I am very grateful for everyone I met and the relationships I was able to build."
While Fullkrug looks to revive his career in Italy, West Ham face a battle at the other end of the table. The London club are currently 18th in the Premier League, four points from safety, as they attempt to climb out of the relegation zone during the run-in.
