AC Milan find form to sweep aside Lecce in Serie A

The Rossoneri made a fast start and took the lead after 14 minutes when Christian Pulisic controlled Strahinja Pavlovic's long pass before calmly finding the bottom corner.

Milan continued to dominate possession and created several chances to extend their advantage before half-time. Koni De Winter headed wide from close range, while Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone denied Pavlovic with a low save.

The hosts continued to control the game after the break and doubled their lead in the 61st minute.

Adrien Rabiot exchanged passes with Goncalo Ramos before finishing from inside the area to score his second Serie A goal of the season.

Lecce struggled to respond and Milan continued to threaten, with Pervis Estupinan going close to adding a third.

That goal eventually arrived when substitute Diego Moreira cut inside Jamil Siebert before firing past Falcone for his third league goal in his last two matches.

The result ended Milan's three-game winless run in all competitions and gave them back-to-back home league victories for only the second time in 2026.

Amorim highlighted the freedom given to his players as one of the biggest differences in Milan's performance.

"We improved a lot. I think the players' freedom, their movement and, above all, the runs from deep made the difference," the Milan coach told DAZN.

"We were not just a team that controlled possession, but also a team that was dangerous when we had space to run into, and that was a key factor tonight.

"We controlled the game, knowing that the opposition were waiting for us to make a mistake, and we managed it very well. We defended solidly and, overall, it was a good win."

Amorim believes Milan have also learned from the difficulties they faced in their previous matches.

"In our last few games, we had some difficulties because our structure was really too rigid in terms of positioning," he said.

"Today the players had a little more freedom and, with a little more freedom, they play better."

The Portuguese coach also stressed the importance of being able to change their approach against different opponents in Serie A.

"The key thing is to have different ways of playing, especially in Italy, because the coaches here are really intelligent," Amorim said.

"They are excellent at man-marking and, when they lose some of their reference points regarding what we want to do, it becomes more difficult for them."

Milan will now turn their attention to their next Serie A fixture away to Sassuolo on Sunday, 11 October.
