A great performer knows when to leave the stage - Dino Ndlovu

Former Bafana Bafana striker Dino Ndlovu has given a strong indication that this might be the time to pull the curtain on his playing career.

The 35-year-old was recently released by Marumo Gallants, just a few months after joining the club as a free agent, having not played any competitive football since June 2024.

In Bloemfontein, he played in just four league games since March – two starts and two off the bench, with Ndlovu now telling SABC Sport it may be time to turn his focus fully to his businesses, though he has yet to make the decision.

"I think, the only thing I can say to you is that, a great performer knows the right time to leave the stage," said Ndlovu.

"And I have a feeling that I'm on that verge now, as a great performer [needing] to leave the stage, but I haven't decided yet."

Ndlovu says, although he enjoyed his short-lived stay at Marumo, he was not informed of the reasons behind his departure, suspecting it had to do with money.

"The reason why we parted ways, I don't know – nobody said anything to me, I just got a letter [stating] that they won't renew my contract," he revealed.

"[Maybe] they didn't see me fit into the upcoming season, and that's football, what can we do? What we agreed upon [for the contract extension], I won't even call that a salary, but I agreed on those terms because I wanted to help the club.

"So I think one of the reasons we parted ways is probably they thought in their minds that, if we're going to renegotiate, which we spoke about before I signed the previous contract, that this is my threshold if I were to stay for another season.

"And I think they believed, 'Ok, we cannot afford Dino going into the upcoming season so we'd rather not renew,' which I'm quite fine that. I respect their decision and I wish them all the best, as much as they wished me all the best, in the upcoming season."
