A game to quickly forget – Lehlohonolo Seema

Sekhukhune United coach Lehlohonolo Seema says Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat against DStv Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns is one they’d rather forget.

The Babina Noko mentor was irritated with how his players gave the ball away cheaply and conceded the first goal by striker Tashreeq Matthews in the opening minute.

Downs added a second through Thapelo Morena almost immediately, and Seema believes that’s when the game was wrapped up.

"I think I don't even have to go overview the 90 minutes, it's too far, 7 minutes, we lost the match and we had a terrible start and we made mistakes that I'm sure even the opponents couldn't believe that their luck is that good," Seema said.

Although Sekhukhune did pull one back in the second half when forward Chibuike Ohizu converted from the penalty spot, Seema reckons the match was beyond their reach by then.

"That's how it went and if you start like that against a team like Mamelodi Sundowns, they are champs, they've been sitting on top of the log since they won and [if] you don't bring your A game from the first minute then you're bound to have a mountain to climb," the coach added.

Seema was quick in making changes, bringing on Ohizu and Kamohelo Mokotjo on before half time to replace Jamie Webber and Lehlohonolo Mtshali.

The coach says their tactics were falling apart.

"But credit must go to the players when you're 2-0 [after] 7 minutes at Loftus against Mamelodi Sundowns one would think that the game is done and dusted but the boys stuck in there. We couldn't even wait for half time with those few minutes that were left because everything was going wrong and we had to make changes in that five minutes before half time."
