Victories for Griquas, Pumas and Sharks as Currie Cup reaches pivotal stage

Rasivhaga brace ensures Sharks stay in contention

Junior Springbok Khuthi Rasivhaga scored two tries as the Sharks stayed in contention for the playoffs after a 19-12 victory against Boland Cavaliers at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

The visitors made their intentions clear early with a try in the fifth minute by left wing Jayden Bantom but 19-year-old left wing Rasivhaga replied for the hosts.

Johannes Slabbert then put the Sharks in front as Tim Swiel added the conversion from the kicking tee.

Rasivhaga completed his brace 10 minutes before full-time to give the home side a 19-5 advantage on the scoreboard.

The Cavaliers scored a late converted try, courtesy of replacement prop Dewald Maritz, but the hosts held on for an important win.

Pumas edge Bulls for consecutive away victories

The Pumas made it back-to-back victories away from home in this season's Currie Cup adter edging the Bulls 33-31 at Loftus Versfeld.

It was a fourth successive defeart for the hosts that all but put paid to their playoff hopes this campaign with three league rounds remaining.

The Pumas stunned the hosts with three tries in the opening 20 minutes as Alfondso Isaacs, skipper Willie Engelbrecht and lock JJ Scheepers all went over.

Lock Jonathan Eloff scored for the Bulls to bring them back into the game and scrumhalf Keagan Johannes converted to add the extras from the kick tee.

Replacement hooker Jan-Henning Campher proved a masterstroke from the bench for the visitors with two tries in the second half to put his team well clear.

The home team though never gave up and further tries by Sandi Msengana and Hakeem Kunene made it close but it wasn't enough.

Griquas dismantle Lions in Kimberley

Griquas once again showed their prowess on home turf after dismantling the Lions 31-19 in in Kimberley on Saturday.

The hosts scored four tries in the contest and the scoreline could have been better had flyhalf George Whitehead brought his kicking boots with him as he missed three conversions.

Griquas two wingers Gershwin Wehr and Dylan Maart scores a try apiece to put the home side 10-0 ahead as Whitehead missed both conversions.

The flyhalf did succeed with a penalty to extend the lead but Thando Biyela pulled a try back for the Lions make the score 13-7 at halftime.

Whitehead was on target with two penalties early after the interval but the hosts kept the on the pressure and Bobby Alexander and debutant hooker Janus Venter added further tries to make the score 31-12 and the contest effectively over.
