URC: Sharks no match for five-try Bulls in Pretoria

The Bulls moved to within a point of United Rugby Championship leaders Glasgow Warriors with a commanding 44-10 win over the Sharks at Loftus Versfeld.

Stedman Gans and Akker van der Merwe both went over for a pair of tries and Kurt-Lee Arendse and Elrigh Louw also crossed, with Johan Goosen adding four conversions and a pair of penalties.

The Sharks were awarded a penalty try with Curwin Bosch also sending over an early penalty.

The visitors took the lead early via Bosch's boot but the rest of the first half belonged to the Bulls, who would head back into the sheds leading 27-3.

After Johan Goosen leveled the scores from the tee following a disallowed Bulls try, the home side did get on the board when Gans scored the first of his two tries following a superb team effort.

It didn't take long for Gans to pick up his second as he collected a short little pop pass and ran a straight line right through the Sharks defence and over the line.

Springbok star Kurt-Lee Arendse picked up the Bulls' third thanks to some great individual brilliance and there was time for one more just before the half-time break when hooker Akker van der Merwe barged over having set up a rolling maul via the line-out moments earlier.

The match was all but over as a contest at half-time as the Bulls led 27-3, although there were brief hopes of a Sharks fightback when they were awarded a penalty try for the Bulls collapsing a maul.

But the Bulls would have the final say in the match with two more tries from Elrigh Louw and Van Der Merwe put the result beyond any question.
